William Glennon, (1923-2002) a native of Pennsylvania, received a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and went on to study theatre history at the University of Pittsburgh and art history at Bowdoin College. He had a long career in regional theatre and with stock companies, directing and acting in hundreds of plays. Eventually, he began to write his own. In Maine, he worked for several years on a special in-school program, exploring the use of theatre techniques in both learning and teaching throughout the state. For more than 25 years, he also was one of New England’s leading antique dealers, operating a seasonal business in Wiscasset, Maine.

In this story of Hansel and Gretel the white bird and the little gnome, under the spell of the wicked Witch, are forced to coax children away so that the wicked Witch can eat them. When the children's father returns home without food or money the whole family goes berry picking. The children become lost in the woods, and the white bird and the gnome put them to sleep until the Witch comes. Once in the Witch's house the children, after a number of unsuccessful attempts, finally manage to trap the Witch in her own oven. Father finds them and all ends happily.
